Design work states the question and selects the response variables. Treatment units are allocated alongside control or reference units and stratified by ecological site and soil map unit. Replication and sampling intensity are set to detect a specified effect size. Condition is measured before treatment begins, so change is read against a known starting point.
Applications include seed mix and seeding rate trials, site preparation and compaction relief comparisons, and amendment trials. They also include timing and method comparisons for invasive species treatment, grazing and mowing prescription comparisons, and pollinator and wildlife habitat response studies. On multisite portfolios, a single design applied consistently across sites produces comparable results, so a prescription tested on one property informs decisions on the next. Results are reported with effect size, confidence intervals, and the statistical power the design supports. Inference is bounded by the number of sites, treatment units, and growing seasons the design covers.
